La Chamba ~ South American Slow Food Cookware.

La Chamba is versatile oven-to-table cook ware. It can be used in the oven and on the stove, microwave and barbeque. It can be used over direct heat - gas, electric and open flame.

Broadly accepted in kitchens and distributed throughout the US and Europe for the last 20 years, La Chamba is a registered Fair Trade Federation product. This means that every La Chamba piece is hand made by an adult indigenous artisan and the production process respects regional ecological requirements for sustainable development. The black micaceous clay from the Magdalena River is dusted with fine terracotta, polished with semi-precious stones and fired with herbs and mango leaves.

Unlike most ceramics, La Chamba has a porous (unglazed) finish which allows slow evaporation of steam. This means that the cookware retains heat, moisture and flavour, giving more tender meats and healthier foods because clay pots require less fat.

The dishes are safe to use and easy to care for and La Chamba is fully compliant with Australian and New Zealand Health Authority requirements.
